Job Description

Museum Curatorial AssistantPeel Art Gallery Museum & ArchivesContract Full-Time; 13 MonthsPay Band: $63,883 - $79,853 per annumReporting into the Supervisor of Arts & Culture the Curatorial Assistant provides curatorial support for PAMA Museum and integrated exhibitions, including research, graphic design, museum exhibit design, collections management, installation and de-installation, monitoring of museum exhibit spaces and collections, basic care and handling, and documentation of museum artifacts.The Curatorial Assistant also provides general support to the Museum team and other integrated PAMA teams.In this role you will:

  • Assist with development and production of exhibitions including:
    • Interpretive planning, concept design, exhibition development and production.
    • Drafting, proofreading, and production of graphics, text, labels, interactive elements, and other didactics.
    • May design and/or fabricate special artifact mounts and other supports according to best practices.
    • Install and de-install exhibitions as part of a team, including packing and unpacking artifacts, completing condition reports, photography, and basic care, handling and moving of collections.
  • Conducts research on wide range of subjects, contacts vendors, organizations and individuals for museum service delivery.
  • Prepares reports, researches, verifies accuracy, and documents information to meet accepted Museum best practices.
  • Assist with collections management tasks, including research and updating collections database.
  • Assist with exhibition and gallery daily inspections, monitors lighting and artifact conditions, and assist with equipment monitoring requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with other PAMA staff as required on special events, exhibitions.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in history, art, archaeology or related subject plus basic knowledge of museum practices, generally acquired through completion of Management & Curatorship or Collections Conservation & Management program at the community college level, with at least 2 years job related experience in a museum setting. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Strong customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience with collections management database systems.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects and tools up to 30 pounds.
  • Informational research skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software.
Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at 9 Wellington Street East, Brampton. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.Hours of Work: 35 hours a week; Monday to Friday.
