The Canadian Mental Health Association/Peel Dufferin Branch (CMHA/Peel Dufferin) is pleased to announce that we are currently recruiting for the position of Summer Student - Intake Support AssistantThis is a Canada Summer Job 2021. This is a Temporary full time eight (8) week position of 35 hours per week. Approximate contract dates between: May 30, 2021 - September 3, 2021. This position works Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week. The incumbent will work in the catchment area of Brampton and report to the Department Manager.Requirements:Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employmentBe a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employmentHave a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulationsMust be able to work all 8 weeks consecutivelyCriminal Record Check requiredHourly rate: $15.25Summary of job responsibilities:Provide direct service support through the Street Helpline to homeless clients (individuals and families) and those experiencing homelessness. The incumbent also provides administrative support for our annual Food drive and maintenance of our care and food closet.Key Responsibilities:Answers phone calls and messages from our Street Helpline in a professional mannerTransfers callers to the appropriate team membersSupport Housing Help Drop-in clients by providing information, referrals and communicating available optionsAssess and engage to determine clients’ concerns and needsDocument calls in the electronic client databaseProvide accurate and unbiased information, advocacy and support to the teamFollow up and monitor client progressSupport the management through organizing and replenishing of our care and food closetCoordinate and administratively support our annual Food driveProvide reception coverage on a rotational basisOther duties as assignedSkills & Qualifications:Post-secondary education in social work, social services and/or psychology and/or was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic yearPrevious administrative experience, as well as experience working with client/patient related or driven databases would be an assetPossess open, non-judgmental attitude towards people with mental illnesses and/or disabilitiesKnowledge of Microsoft Office SuiteAttention to detail with strong organizational skillsStrong interpersonal skillsExcellent verbal and written communications skills both in person and over the phoneAbility to work independently in a multi-task environment and to prioritize tasks in a manner that meets staff needs and program objectivesCMHA Peel Dufferin is an Equal Opportunity Employer.We are committed to diversity and inclusiveness at our workplace and recognize the unique contribution every individual makes to the community.We acknowledge that removing and reducing existing barriers and preventing new barriers is required in providing opportunities that foster independence, inclusion, and dignity for people of all ages, genders, cultures, and abilities.
