Visit us today and check out www.novascotia.com to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Health Services Manager of the Unit or designate, and under the direction and supervision of regulated professionals, the Care Team Assistant (CTA) is a member of a collaborative care team and contributes to the provision of high quality, safe, compassionate and efficient care to meet the needs of patients and families. Within the CTA’s defined role/scope of employment and educational preparation, the CTA assists the regulated healthcare professionals in the delivery of patient/resident care by providing supervised, direct, hands-on care and assumes responsibility for Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL). The CTA’s role does not substitute for a regulated healthcare professional, and assignments are determined by the care coordinator or other regulated healthcare professional(s) based on acuity, complexity and needs of the patient and/or unit and based on the assessment of the required skill mix to meet patient needsThe CTA exhibits sound judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.Qualifications

  • Provincial certification as a Continuing Care Assistant, required.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the provision of patient/resident care within a hospital setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients/residents, families, other health care providers and staff with a pleasant and cooperative attitude, demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and warmth.
  • Ability to work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to adapt and understand patients/residents needs, assisting them in meeting their fullest physical and emotional potential.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and sound decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health.
  • Basic computer skills – Microsoft Suite – E-mail and Internet.
  • Physical and mental capabilities to perform the duties of the position such as moving and mobilizing patients/residents; varying workloads and shift work, including 12-hour shifts, days/nights; exposure to drugs and radiation, soiled and contaminated equipment, supplies and instruments and medical conditions of patients/residents; exposure in specified units to pets such as pet therapy dogs; dealing with stressful situations relating to agitated, confused, aggressive, or hostile behavior of patients/residents.
