The Town of Bridgewater is seeking a responsible individual to fill the following unionized position in accordance with Article 10 of the C.U.P.E. collective agreement:Facility Operator -in -Training- WastewaterThis unionized position within the Town’s Wastewater utility is a hands-on position involving the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Facility System including the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Wastewater Collection System and Lift Stations.QUALIFICATIONSEducation: · A high school diploma or equivalent is required· Successful completion of a two-year technical program related to Wastewater treatment is preferred. An equivalent combination of related education and experience in a Wastewater treatment and/or collection environment may be considered.Experience: · Previous experience related to the position; experience in the operation of a municipal Wastewater facility and collection system would be an asset.· Related experience in a municipal field or mechanical/electrical repair/maintenance field is preferred.· A combination of education and experience may also be consideredCertificates/Licenses/Registrations: · Must have the ability to obtain Class III Certification in Wastewater Treatment and Class II Certification in Wastewater Collection from Nova Scotia Environment.· The OIT must currently hold, or successfully complete the Operator in training certificate within 90 calendar days of date of hire.· The OIT must pass the Class I examination in Wastewater Treatment within eighteen months of receiving their operator in training certificate.· The OIT must pass the Class I examination in Wastewater Collection within twelve months of receiving their Class I Certification in Wastewater Treatment.· Must possess a valid Driver’s license.The opportunity exists for operators to progress to a higher wage rate based upon completion of higher levels of certification.Essential Skills: · Familiarity with standard Wastewater laboratory testing procedures.· Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, metering control systems and chemical feed systems.· Familiarity with standard safety procedures including the techniques for handling and storing chemicals.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTo Permanent, unionized positiono Wages: $27.94- $32.95, depending on certifications.
