Finance Officer - TermSouth Shore Regional Centre for EducationThe South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices the culturally responsive pedagogy approach in providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe and healthy education that supports learning and success both personally and academically to the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties, an area of 5,250 square kilometres and a total of 23 schools.Regional Centres for Education have Employment Equity Policies and/or processes and we actively encourage applications from under-represented groups, particularly people of African Nova Scotian, African Canadian and African ancestry and Mi’kmaw/Indigenous ancestry.   • Business administration diploma, or degree.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in the field of Finance.
  • Very proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word software).
  • Experience using SAP software would be considered an asset.

Task Dimensions:Prepares financial reports and financial analyses for the Director of Finance to present at various meetings, including:o Senior Management meetingso Regional meetingso Support Staff or CUPE Pension Advisory Committee meetingso School Board CFO meetingso Education and Early Childhood Development meetingsAssists the Director of Finance, and Manager of Finance with the annual budget preparation, budget monitoring processes, and forecasting processes, including:o Creating salary and benefit budget files, for all union and non union groupso Creating the primary budget file which incorporates revenues, salary and benefits, and all other expenditures.o Handling revisions to the budget files as requiredo Preparing supporting financial analyses to incorporate into the budgeto Preparing the final budget documents for the publico Extracting data from BI Launchpad and creating financial statements for budget managerso Preparing and distributing monthly financial statements to schools/principals and all other budget managerso Meeting with budget managers monthly to monitor the accounts and address questions and issueso Coding staff in SAP so their salary and benefits are posted correctlyo Assisting with forecasting revenues and expenditures to fiscal year endProvides support relating to school region insurance policies/issues/claims :o Completing insurance renewal applications.o Assisting school staff and regional staff with insurance questions/issues.o Following up with School Insurance Program staff and insurance companies regarding claims.Performs a variety of Finance functions, including:o Transmitting EFT payments on a weekly basis.o Assisting the Payroll department with the year-end pension adjustment reports.o Updating the Finance section of the website.o Training of and cross training with other members of the Finance staff.o Training of non finance staff in the use of financial information systems.o Preparing calculations and correspondence of service awards, forwarding to Department of Finance for payment, preparing disbursement vouchers for payment, preparing T4 upload file and maintaining documentation.o Preparing yearly reports for the Actuaries detailing the annual contributions, pensionable service and pensionable earnings for each member of the SSRCE/TCRCE Support Staff, CUPE and NSSBA Defined Benefits Pension Plans. As well, providing the Actuaries with detailed explanations of any discrepancies relating to a member’s pensionable service and mailing annual statements to plan members.o Reconciling pension statements to pension remittances on a monthly basis.o Preparing pension cash flow reports on a semi-annual basis.o Preparing pension HST rebate applications.o Processing Health Spending Account claims for payment, tracking and maintaining documentation.o Tracking all funding letters and maintaining documentation.o Assisting school based staff with KEV software questions/issues.o Creating and designing reports in BI Launchpad for use by Finance staff.o Preparing journal entries for posting to the SAP Finance software.o Assisting with revisions and updates to Finance policies and procedures.o Assisting with preparation of year-end audit reports/files.Complies with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.Performs other related duties as required.Thank you for your interest in the South Shore Regional Centre for Education, however, only those shortlisted for an interview will be contacted.Quick Apply
