Over the past decade, the Town of Bridgewater has emerged as an international leader in sustainability and energy transition planning and programming.The Public Service Commission is a separate, corporate body, operating the water utility of the town, providing potable water for approximately 3100 customers and the fire protection through hydrants and sprinkler services. Customers exist both in town and in the county. The Commission employs five water operators who operate under the direction of the Water Facility Supervisor. If you require any accommodations at any point during the application and hiring process, please contact human resources.ABOUT THE ROLEThe Water Facility Supervisor is a hands-on position involving the operation and maintenance of the Public Service Commission of Bridgewater’s Water utility consisting of the following major components: Source Water Area, Treatment Plant, and Distribution System. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Environmental Services Manager who reports to the Director of Engineering to ensure effective and efficient operation of the water utility for the purpose of production of an adequate quantity of high-quality potable water and fire flow.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: · Post-secondary diploma in environmental engineering or a water-related field is required.· Certification as a Class III Water Treatment Operator and Class II Water Distribution are required.· A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license is required.· Five years’ senior operator experience is required.· Previous experience in a supervisory role will be considered an asset.· Working knowledge of Nova Scotia Environment Act and Regulations governing Municipal Drinking Water.· Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all source water, water treatment plant and distribution system processes controls and monitoring devices including but not limited to pumps, motors, valves, metering control systems, chemical feed systems, monitoring programs, lake levels and control structures, leak detection, flushing, fire flows, water services.· Strong hands-on mechanical skills· Effective troubleshooting skills· Proficient with a number of computer-based applications including basic word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet browsers, SCADA software· Effective technical writingVisit www.bridgewater.ca to view the full job description for this position.
