As a charitable organization, the YMCA invests all of its resources in the provision of programs and services focused on the wellness, health and fitness, childcare and personal development needs of all.Nature and Scope: The YMCA of Southwest Nova Scotia is expanding its support of the youth community by offering the Youth Transitions Program; a National YMCA program designed to provide vulnerable students, ages 12 – 19 leading up to and at critical academic transition points, with community supports they need for educational attainment and future success. Participants will foster a sense of belonging through mentorship, one-to-one support, and workshops, developing life skills to be healthy, stable adults. Through trauma informed and strengths-based approach, students will develop life skills, gain resilience, cultivate a positive mental wellbeing, and develop the capacity to reach their fullest potential. This program is funded by through theEmployment and Social Development Canada Supports for Student Learning Program.The Youth Support Worker (YSW) will provide vulnerable youth, leading up to and at critical academic transition points, with the community supports and life skill development they need for educational attainment and future success. Program delivery includes, but is not limited to, the development of youth-centered plans, facilitation of workshops, supportive counseling and the coordination of peer mentorship. The YSW uses an outreach model to meet youth within the community, at schools, local YMCA facilities or another appropriate site. Reporting to theYouth Director, the YSW is responsible for the effective planning, implementation, and evaluation of program services. The YSW carries out their duties in a professional manner and in accordance with all YMCA policies and procedures, standards of practice, health and safety standards, child protection standards and contractual, legal, and regulatory requirements.Additionally, the YSW will collaborate within an inter-professional team of professionals across the community network that influence the well-being of clients, as well as within theOrganizations team structure, in support of goals that align with and achieve the YMCA’s strategy, Mission, Vision and Values.This position requires an enthusiastic, energetic, qualified, self-motivated individual committed to serving the youth community with integrity, creativity, accountability, and innovation.
