We are seeking a collaborative & innovative Career Counsellor to join our Indigenous Employment Hub team in beautiful Ladysmith, BC on central Vancouver Island. The Career Counsellor will work collaboratively with our Administration, Educators, Partners and Community Members, including Elders & Knowledge Keepers, to support our Community Members & Students as part of our newly established Indigenous Employment Hub. While the focus for this position is on employment opportunities & skill development for our adult Stz’uminus & Coast Salish community members, our programs span all ages and you will also work with high school students in career education & preparation.THE OPPORTUNITYYou meet with clients to identify employment strengths, goals, needs and potential barriersYou enhance your commitment to respectful professional relationships with a deep understanding of Coast Salish ways and values & proximity to the CommunityYou support & guide client access to appropriate employment training, programs, supports & services, including existing programs with WorkBC & other organizationsYou set up online and in-person training opportunities for clientsYou identify & facilitate required in-house training programsYou build & maintain a respected reputation in the community while respecting and following Coast Salish ways of knowing and beingYou collaborate with staff and community members to understand the SES vision, mission & provocative propositionsYou document client demographics, communications, meetings, progress, activities & opportunitiesWHAT YOU BRINGYou are dedicated to lifelong learning & possess post-secondary education in Career Development, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Counselling, or a related fieldYou are passionate about supporting Indigenous Students & Community Members to realize their potential and expand their career opportunitiesYou have proven experience advising in career planning, vocational selection, job searches, employment barrier resolution & career developmentYou possess expert knowledge when it comes to technology (social media, database management, Microsoft 365 including Excel)You are a collaborative team-player with effective communication and problem-solving skills who values what each member of the team contributesYou are dedicated to incorporating our Indigenous Coast Salish culture, hul’q’umi’num language & Stz’uminus ways of knowing and being in your personal journey & your professional practiceYou are eligible for clearance of a Criminal Record Check for working with children and vulnerable personsAs an asset, you hold a Certified Career Development Professional (CCDP), Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) or equivalent designationQuick Apply
