Job Description

Indigenous Recruitment OfficerJob description and dutiesCoast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for a full-time continuing Indigenous Recruitment Officer commencing as soon as possible. This position can be based out of our Prince Rupert, Terrace, Hazelton, or Smithers campus. Evening hours and travel will be required. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff, Level 10.Duties: The Indigenous Recruitment Officer assists in developing, coordinating, and implementing CMTN’s Strategic Recruitment Plan, focusing primarily on Indigenous students. This position advocates and promotes CMTN, its programs, and services for the purpose of encouraging enrolment.Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Respond to questions and concerns about all aspects of CMTN, including inquiries regarding admission requirements, academic programs, Indigenous support, and campus life
  • Consult with members of the Indigenization Team to develop and implement various engagement strategies for recruitment designed to inform Indigenous students and communities of CMTN and its academic programs
  • Assist in the planning and execution of recruitment events for Indigenous students and communities, fostering relationships, and helping to coordinate and/or participate in Indigenous events as appropriate
  • Work with local educational institutions to organize and implement events for Indigenous counsellors and prospective students
  • Participate and support internal and external events at conferences, workshops, and presentations in surrounding Indigenous communities for the purpose of recruitment of Indigenous students
  • Provide campus tours and orientation for prospective Indigenous students, their families, counsellors and others
  • Contribute to the recruitment and training of student ambassadors and alumni to assist with events and recruitment initiatives
  • Provide front-line customer service when needed (phoning students, meeting prospective students, answering email etc.)
  • Work closely with the Admissions Office to facilitate communication with prospective students, their parents, high school counsellors, educational representatives, etc.
QualificationsA minimum of a diploma or undergraduate degree (preferably in Education or Marketing) along with 2 years of directly related experience.Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
  • Thorough understanding of Indigenous post-secondary student educational needs and expectations
  • A deep understanding of local Indigenous communities, organizations, and cultural protocols and practices
  • Intuitive and service oriented with exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Persuasive and engaging communication skills with an ability to clearly express ideas and deliver captivating and dynamic presentations
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Indigenous histories, traditions and cultures
  • Knowledge of Colleague, Outlook, MS Office and social media platforms
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to determine priorities and be self-directed
  • Work efficiently under pressure of deadlines despite interruptions
  • Familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action, particularly as they relate to the education sector
