Job Description

Instructor (term) - Introduction to HairstylistJob description and dutiesCoast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for an Instructor to teach the Introduction to Hairstylist module of the Youth/Adult Exploratory Trades Sampler (YETS) program as outlined below (subject to minimum enrolment). Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor Scale.Duties: The Instructor will facilitate learning (maintaining the Industry Training Authority curriculum and examinations) and is responsible for ensuring student success. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction. In addition, the instructor will oversee and ensure shop safety, complete the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities as well as other related duties as required. The YETS program will provide students with the basic technical knowledge and hands-on experience in Skilled Trades (listed below).

  • Introduction to Hairstylist – January 4, 2022 to January 14, 2022 (up to 59 instructional hours) to be delivered in Gitlaxt’aamiks (New Aiyansh)
QualificationsJourneyperson Certification, Grade 12 or equivalent, and a minimum 5 years of varied field experience as a trade Journeyperson and teaching experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a Provincial Instructor Diploma, other relevant certifications and demonstrated enthusiasm for their trade. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Require skills/abilities include:
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s license
  • Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and mentor learners of a variety of ages
  • Intermediate computer skills (word processing, excel, email)
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the characteristics of our strategic plan (adventurous, transformative, and integrity) and the ability to apply them to teaching
