This full-time tenure-track position is a member of the Librarians Department within TRU Libraries, supporting the Faculty of Law. The Law Librarian reports to the University Librarian and works collaboratively with other librarians and staff in the TRU Libraries, and Law Faculty members. The position is responsible for learning and research assistance and liaison services for the students and faculty of the Faculty of Law and other patrons of the law library. Responsibilities include selection and evaluation of print and electronic resources for the law library collection, and engaging students in the learning process by providing workshops, online guides and tutorials, and individual research consultations. The successful candidate may be cross-appointed with the Faculty of Law and be responsible for teaching courses in advanced legal research and writing to Law students.The successful candidate will join a committed team of library professionals and will be expected to be a full participant, along with the rest of the library team, in defining and achieving library goals. As a faculty member, the candidate will actively pursue professional and service activities. This position is at the Thompson Rivers University Kamloops Campus, situated on the traditional lands of the Tkemlúps te Secwépemc within Secwépemculucw, the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc.Responsibilities:Liaison and Research Support

  • Collaborates with colleagues to deliver in-depth, high-quality service in satisfaction of the research and learning needs of students and faculty.
  • Participates in the selection and evaluation of print, electronic, and media resources to support the law library collection, within the collection and acquisitions guidelines of TRU Libraries.
  • Prepares and maintains research guides to support learning needs.
  • Assesses user needs to develop and maintain relevant, high-quality services and information resources.
  • Contributes to law library communications initiatives
Classroom Instruction
  • Delivers in-class instruction sessions, particularly in legal research methods in a variety of law subject areas.
  • Contributes to bibliographic and information literacy instructional programming in the law library.
  • May teach sections of courses in advanced legal research and writing to TRU Law students
General Responsibilities
  • Participates in library collegial governance and in the development of library policies, planning, and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborates with librarian colleagues to meet interdisciplinary research, scholarly communications, and assessment needs.
  • Keeps up to date on developments in library service, resources, and technology in law libraries and academic libraries generally, as well as on broader issues that affect the practice of librarianship and law librarianship.
  • Participates in Library, Law Faculty, and University committees, councils, task forces, and teams.
  • Participates in professional organizations and professional development in law librarianship and academic librarianship as appropriate.
Position type and Salary:
  • Full-time tenure-track, starting January 2023
  • Excellent benefits, including 40 days of vacation time and 20 days of professional development time per year

QUALIFICATIONSRequired Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Library Science/Information Science from an accredited program, conferred prior to appointment.
  • 2 years of recent law library experience or other equivalent combination of prior education and work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge about Canadian legal resources and instruction in legal research methods and law library use.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning and development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working/teaching environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in student success and student learning.
