Job Description

Our mission is to work with our educational partners to inspire engaged, compassionate, resilient lifelong learners and cultivate a collaborative community together.We invite applications for the temporary position of:Education Assistants: Elementary, 27.95 hours per week, Monday through Friday.Locations are determined by Inclusive Education and are subject to change.

  • The current rate of pay is $25.02 per hour plus 15.5% in lieu of benefits.
  • Positions end June 29, 2023 or upon return of the incumbent.
Qualifications:Grade 12 education supplemented by Human Services Worker program certificate and Autism training such as Provincial Outreach Program for Autism & Related Disorders (POPARD); valid Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification is preferred; recent experience supporting students with a variety of diverse learning and behavioural needs such as those with chronic health impairments, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, learning and intellectual disabilities; ability to work effectively with staff and students; willingness to work in an inclusionary setting supporting differentiated instruction with adapted and modified curriculum; valid Class 5 B.C. drivers license and license appropriate to the type of equipment/vehicle being operated and a personal vehicle available for use on the job is preferred; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Duties/Responsibilities:Duties are performed under the supervision of the school Principal or Vice Principal and the Principal of Inclusive Education or designate; follows the guidance and leadership of the district support teacher, learning support teacher and classroom teacher; provides support to individual students or small groups of students across multiple settings at the elementary level; provides support for classroom instruction, activities of daily living, and behaviour support for students in accordance with the individual education plan; carries out personal and health care routines as directed; provides information to school based team, itinerant staff or relevant agency personnel as requested by School/Program Leaders; facilitates inclusion of students with special needs into class and school activities; assists students in off-site program activities as required; participates in student observations, data collection and the implementation of the individual education and behaviour plans; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor; student supervision as required by the Principal or Vice Principal.To Apply:School District 71 welcomes diverse candidates and encourages applications from members of groups experiencing barriers to equity.
