This position includes advising researchers on study design, analysis and application of statistical methods; extracting information for research analysis; conducting statistical analyses; management and oversight of project data and management systems according to ethical and privacy protocols.ORGANIZATIONAL STATUSLocated in Vancouver, BC, the Centre for Gender and Sexual Equity (CGSHE) is a UBC academic research centre housed at Providence Health Care (www.cgshe.ca,www.gendersexualhealth.ubc.ca). The CGSHE has a strategic mandate of leadership in promoting gender equity and sexual health equity through in BC, Canada and globally. The CGSHE currently consists of over 100 staff and faculty, including academic and clinical researchers, graduate students, and frontline research staff, working out of our CGSHE administrative offices and our community/clinical research hub in Vancouver’s DowntownEastside. We work in a highly collaborative team and strive to hire members from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.WORK PERFORMEDManages data for epidemiological cohort-based studies, including updating, cleaning and editing data for quality assurance. Conducts & advises on statistical analyses of epidemiological data in collaboration with all members of teams, including trainees under supervision of Principal Investigators and other investigators. Develops and prepares training materials for various relevant aspects of data analysis, including presentations to trainees and investigators as needed. Prepares data specific to the projects by understanding project requirements, needs and restrictions, ensuring data is clean and accurate. Collects variables from multiple databases, including linkages to databases for databases housed within and outside of the CGSHE to create new datasets. Codes and develops SAS macros to merge data. Supervises, provides training, and day-to-day support to the Data Analysis Team, facilitating workflow and communication. Evaluates data quality, applications, and functions, and makes changes to the output process when necessary. Provides leadership in the improvement in data delivery and presentation. Presents data to Principal Investigator and other relevant members of the team and outlines the data requirements in the creation of the dataset. Oversees electronic data capture projects in REDCap. Provides leadership in the development of and follows all project and institutional protocols regarding the handling of research data, including confidentiality protocols and appropriate data management and storage. Performs other related duties as required.The incumbent will work at a designated, appropriate workspace, with time spent at the CGSHE’s Hornby St Office as well as CGSHE’s Gender Research Hub in the Downtown Eastside. Travel to meetings may be required from time to time.DECISION MAKING / ACCOUNTABILITYThis position works with a high degree of independence and responsibility and exercises a considerable amount of judgement. Errors in judgment could result in serious financial or reputational consequences for the CGSHE/ UBC, undermining the Centres ability to meet commitments and achieve its strategic objectives, including the inability to successfully meet granting agencies deliverables. Inaccurate projections and forecasts could cause the Centre to make costly decisions regarding levels of investigator and staff resources and other support. Poor public/private sector relationships could result in a negative image of CGSHE / UBC and may impact levels of research funding made available through partnerships. Errors could result in significant concerns regarding the liability, credibility and integrity of the CGSHE and UBC.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDSupervised by and reporting to the Principal Investigators.SUPERVISION GIVENSupervises and provides day-to-day support and training to members of the Data Analysis Team.QUALIFICATIONSPost-graduate degree in Statistics. An equivalent combination of education training and experience may be considered. Undergraduate or graduate coursework in statistics, data analysis or research methods are an asset. High proficiency with SAS and SQL software. Minimum of two years of related experience in research analysis, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with M-Plus and R an asset. Demonstrated ability to work with relational databases, large datasets and multiple data sources. Ability to validate and audit data. Demonstrated ability working with information systems and data files, including large and complex files: analysing file structure, transforming raw data into finished products. Ability to self-motivate, with managerial, leadership and project management skills. Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to meet and establish deadlines. Ability to work independently following SOPs, and within a diverse team environment.
