Photonics unlocks many possibilities for the worlds most innovative companies who increasingly rely on virtual prototyping to explore new product concepts and optimize designs.Our customers are developing the technology of tomorrow - things like LiDAR systems for autonomous cars, virtual reality headsets, cellphone cameras, communications equipment for data centers and new platforms for quantum computing.As an Intern at Ansys, you will work under the supervision of experienced R&D engineers developing innovative solutions to challenging and industrially relevant problems. You will be part of a team of computational physics experts, contributing to projects that enhance product capabilities help our customers achieve their goals usingAnsys photonic simulation software.In this role, youwill have the opportunity to combine your physics and engineering knowledge with software development techniques for numerical modeling. You will join an R&D team applying leading-edge methods in computational physics and high-performance computing to a broad range of physical problems at multiple scales, where collaboration drives results. Success depends on strong analytical skill, experience with numerical techniques for linear and non-linear problems, and the ability to make the connection between simulation and real-life.This internship will begin in May 2022 and conclude in August2022.Responsibilities

  • Assist R&D engineers with numerical software prototypedevelopment, analysis, and testing;
  • Use existing solvers and analysis tools to develop and enhance application examples; and
  • Document and communicate solution methodologies via examples, technical documentation, and presentations suitable for a broad range of audiences.
Minimum qualifications
  • Pursuing M.A.Sc. or PhD (or equivalent)in Electrical Engineering, computer Science or Physics.
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to university after the completion of the internship program.
  • Programming experience with C++, MATLAB, and/or Python languages;
  • Experience applying numerical methods for simulation and analysis; and
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience usingAnsys simulation toolsor other simulation tools for electronics and/or photonics;
  • Experience in numerical methods and algorithms computational electromagnetics and/or semiconductor charge transport;
  • Experience in software development for parallel computing; and
  • Familiarity with software development tools and processes (e.g. version control).
