Competition # M-2223-003The District Vice Principal of Arts Education plays a central role in supporting the vision, development, management, supervision, and delivery of Arts Education programs in the North Vancouver School District and the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art. With this, the District Vice Principal of Arts Education is responsible for providing leadership for District professional opportunities for both elementary and secondary schools within Arts Education. Further, leadership in supporting a District Strategic Communications plan to build community and celebrate Arts Education is ongoing. The dates for this temporary assignment are February 1, 2023 to August 1, 2023 .Qualifications:Eligibility for or membership with the BC Teacher Regulation BranchA Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in an educational field within the Arts Education curriculumA strong knowledge of the Canadian Arts community is desirableDemonstrated history of successful grant writing in a timely manner.Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the fields of Arts EducationAbility and experience to lead curation within an visual art exhibition.Museum education, retail sales, print production would be desirable.Demonstrated ability to assist schools in designing and implementing Arts Education programs and experience teaching K - 12Evidence of leadership experienceKnowledge and experience with the British Columbia’s Redesigned Curriculum for the Arts EducationAbility to identify existing and new program areas requiring development and support with the ability to direct appropriate staff and resourcesAbility to identify opportunities to engage district and school based teachers in developing an enhanced understanding of how learning through Arts Education fosters interdisciplinary educational experiences.Experience managing budgets including allocating resources to projects, making acquisitionsCollaboration with school, district and community professionals in offering specialized servicesAbility to provide effective leadership and effective problem solving while working with teamsExperience identifying market demand and ability to align with new program offerings that are both financially and operationally viableExemplary interpersonal skills as well as, oral and written communication skillsAbility to mediate multiple competing agendas while focusing on the core mandate of the organizationRoles and responsibilities include:In partnership with the District Principal of Arts Education, supports the District Arts Education Strategic Plan for the visual and performing artsThrough the lens of the Arts Education, continues to build interdisciplinary capacity for educators to learn with each other to stimulate a community of rich learners through varied professional development for staff. Specifically, oversees, builds and supports professional development programming within the schools, the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art, outreach classes, teacher workshops, online resources and varied student-centered opportunities and festivals in Arts Education, to build peer-to-peer enrichment opportunities.Supports the District Principal of Arts Education to secure funding opportunities by sourcing and applying for appropriate grants, networking with philanthropic organizations, and continues ongoing communications with existing donors.Supports the partnership with the Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists and works to ensure effective communication and collaboration is maintained between the programming and the operational team.In partnership with the Director, care for and maintain the Permanent Collection. Which includes: awareness of the HVAC data in Gallery and Warehouse, cataloguing, and storage of work is maintained in good order with inventories undertaken annually.In partnership with the Director, plans, organizes, and reviews print selection and production at all stages. Determines in conjunction with the acquisition committee: the artists to engage, budget, marketability of the print, marketing strategy. In conjunction with the Director, works directly with the artist on the creative direction to be followed and to nurture an ongoing relationship.Supports staffing within the AFK program and for all Itinerant Arts Education teaching staff. Trains, coaches and mentors staff.Supports planning and execution of curated exhibitions at the GSG of Canadian Art. Plays a key role in decision making on theme and content of exhibitions for educational use.Supports the District Principal of Arts Education in overseeing and supporting the planning, organization and management of the District’s Band and Strings Program.Supports the District Principal of Arts Education in overseeing and supporting the Artists for Kids school programming: Grade 5, Secondary and Self-Guided Gallery programs, Grade 3, 7 and Secondary Enrichment, Elementary Outreach and AFK Academy.Supports the District Principal of Arts Education in overseeing and supporting the Artists for Kids community based programming: Fall, Winter and Spring After School Art Programs, Spring and Summer Day Camps, Pro D Camps, Paradise Valley Summer Visual Arts Camp and Strong Start/START Strong classes.Supports the District Principal of Arts Education in overseeing and supporting District Arts Education Festivals: Intermediate Music Festival, District Dance Festival, Primary Days of Music and the Band and Strings District Festival.How to Apply:Candidates must hold or be eligible for a B.C.
