Vancouver Island West School District 84is seeking an outstanding educational leaderfor the position ofVICE-PRINCIPALEarly Learning and ChildcareLocated on the beautiful West Coast of Vancouver Island, School District 84 resides in the traditional territory of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations and delivers public education to approximately 300 students in the First Nations communities of Kyuquot, Oclucje, Ehatis, and Tsaxana, as well as the rural communities of Zeballos, Tahsis and Gold River.The Vice-Principal of Early Learning and Childcare will provide leadership and assume a wide range of responsibilities aimed at leading, promoting, implementing, and supporting new early learning strategies under the new Ministry of Education and Child Care Framework. The Vice-Principal will be an energetic team leader who can inspire by example, encourage innovation and build on existing strengths. This is a career opportunity for a respectful, resourceful and effective educator who has knowledge of the Ministry of Education’s redesigned curriculum, core competencies and current education practices and is committed to working and living in this remote and beautiful District.The Vice-Principal of Early Learning and Childcare will:demonstrate knowledge of early learning structures and develop new programs and initiatives under the expanded Ministry mandate;lead and support the District in Early Learning and Childcare (ELCC) projects and initiatives;complete a review/scan of existing ELCC resources in the District and communities;administer existing District ELCC programs such as StrongStart, Ready Set Learn;identify opportunities for and expand access to ELCC on school grounds;identify and align District resources to support ELCC;engage partners cross the District to identify and expand access to ELCC initiatives on school properties;ensure alignment with District and Ministry goals under the new Early Learning and Childcare Framework;work collaboratively with District staff, parents/guardians, Indigenous partners and the broader communities to support the development of new early learning initiatives;commit to school/community involvement and input;facilitate working groups and plan within the school and community settings;maintain a focus on high-quality early learning and child care experiences;liaise with Ministry staff and other district ELCC leads to share learnings and build capacity through a Provincial Network/Community of Practice;be willing to assume additional District duties as required.The candidate we seek will have a professional profile that includes:a belief that every student can learn;the ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner;the ability to create a focus and commitment with the staff and school community to successfully address the needs of all students;the ability to work harmoniously with the community, staff and parents to address the needs of First Nations students;a solutions oriented approach to problems, demonstrated ability to facilitate change, and demonstrated understanding of needs, issues and problems in rural education;successful leadership experience;excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;vision and risk taking;proven ability to work with all partners to establish clear goals and direction;ability to develop and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment;a focus on student achievement, excellent teaching and instructional leadership;working knowledge and experience in Indigenous education; and,a commitment to building shared leadership.A candidate eligible for a BC teaching certificate with a Master’s degree in education completed, in progress or a commitment to undertake is preferred.
