We offer a competitive salary, comprehensive benefitspackage, and a rewarding, stimulating work environment.POSITION SUMMARY:The Youth Mental Health Counsellor reports to the Director of Children’s Program’s &Counselling Services while working with School District 63 (SD-63)program staff located at one ofthe two Individual Learning Center (ILC) campuses on the peninsula. The position is offered inpartnership with SD-63 and Beacon. Responsibilities include assisting youth that attend ILC withtheir day-to-day personal skill/social development and family/peer relationships. The programincludes individual and group learning opportunities in aid of enhancing participants’ copingstrategies, life skills awareness and development in aid of individual success and growth.Contacts in the community include linkage with those services deemed most appropriate for theyouth and their circumstance. Further to this, the position also acts as a mentor and support toyoung students, who are parents returning to complete their education while parenting theirinfant/toddler. Participants have access to dedicated childminding on site for this purpose.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide a variety of life skill supports, programing and counselling for youth and theirfamilies such as alternative parenting strategies, effective communication, and basic homemanagement in aid of strengthening their coping strategies in aid of building on the youth’ssuccess, healthy life choices, school completion and optimum independence. Assist youth in identifying their strengths and means of building on them Assist young student parents with their ability to attend classes and complete course workwhile attending to their parental needs. Aid youth and or family members in developing appropriate social interactions and ageappropriate conversations. Ensure youth are aware of services available to support them & ability to connect withthem. Develop programing that may enhance or assist the youth’s growth and connection to self,those who are significant to them, peers where appropriate, and the community in whichthey live. Provide services that are culturally sensitive and respectful and inclusive to all. Refer parents and or youth to support programs when required Attend case management meetings as outlined by SD-63 Attend monthly update meetings with Director of Children’s Programs & counsellingServices in aid of caseload review. Provide monthly program paperwork in a timely and articulate manner Be familiar with BCS Policies and Procedures especially those related to Safety Attend to paper work and communication with BCS in a timely manner Other related dutiesQUALIFICATIONS: Post-secondary education in humanities with preferred designation in Child YouthCounselling or Counselling - Psychology A minimum of XX years’ experience in the field Sound knowledge of youth, youth at risk and youth related issues Sound knowledge of family systems theory and experience in applying these theories. Sound knowledge of Young Parent Programing and needs of young student parents. Sound knowledge of trauma based practices.
