Additional benefits include:Approximate hourly wage: $19.62- $22.61Comprehensive health and dental benefits plan including an Employee and Family Assistance ProgramRRSP program (5% employer matching)Vacation accrual (begins immediately) and travel insuranceFree onsite parkingEmployee discounts on select apparel, fitness, and retail partners through our Perks ProgramAccess to continuing education and training through Shannex’s Centre of ExcellenceOpportunities to be part of sector innovation and continuous improvement initiativesRecognition and Rewards for service excellence and safetyAbout the OpportunityAdministers, plans, directs, organizes, coordinates and evaluates the recreation, music, and volunteer programs.Develops and establishes program policies, procedures and objectives consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient operation of the department.Administers the departmental operating budget and other pertinent financial requirements, prepares purchase orders, verifies and approves invoices for payment.Prepares reports, records, statistics and other data as needed or requested.Recruits volunteers for the facility and coordinates volunteer orientation and recognition program.Supervises and evaluates departmental staff and volunteers which includes work assignments, training, disciplinary procedures, and performance evaluation.Takes every precaution that is reasonable in the circumstances to ensure the health and safety of employees and all others in the workplace, including but not limited to, providing supervision, training, information, and equipment needed for employees to do their job safely.Meets with various public and private groups and community agencies to establish links to recreation services.Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, coordinating with other team members in assisting individual residents to meet their assessed needsMaintains appropriate documentation on recreation programs, assessments and progress for individual residentsAbout YouYou have a diploma in recreation or a related discipline.You have a passion for creative arts such as music therapy, art therapy, or artistic expression.You are an energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly and has experience in programming and planning for seniors in a recreational environment.You have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as strong computer skills.Possession of a Class G Driver’s License is an asset.Proof of current, valid CPR and First Aid Certification, as well as a Safe Food Handler’s Course, is required.You can work flexible hours and shifts (including some weekends and evenings).About UsIt all began in 1988 when our Founder, Joseph Shannon, purchased a single nursing home in his hometown of Sydney, Cape Breton.
