Please view our City of Brooks Careers Corner page for more details.The Brooks Newell Region will be hosting the 2023 Alberta 55plus Summer Games, and we’ll be welcoming over 800 athletes into our community. The Games will take place August 17 – 20, 2023, and will feature events like cycling, floor shuffleboard, swimming, golf, track & field, crafts & photography, slow-pitch, pickleball, and more! It’s going to be an amazing opportunity to showcase our community, and we’ve got a LOT of work to do to get ready. That’s where you come in!We’re hiring a Games Coordinator to be our go-to event planner and organized mastermind. We’ll need an energetic and motivated person who’s not afraid to roll up their sleeves and lead in the planning and execution of the Brooks Newell Games. The Games Coordinator will report to the City’s Manager of Recreation Services and will work closely with the Games Planning Committee and Games Executive.Games Coordinator needs to be a strong leader, someone who’s highly-organized can self-motivate, and maintain a positive, upbeat attitude even while under tremendous pressure. Why Because in the short amount of time we have to plan these games, there’s going to be a lot of excitement and adrenaline, and you’re going to feel like you’re pulled in lot of different directions. Here’s what our Games Coordinator will be working on:DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Games Planning Committee and Games Executive with planning, coordination, and completion of tasks, such as site preparations and purchase/supply of equipment.
  • Act as a resource person for technical information, sports schedules, site organization, etc.
  • Attend meetings of the Committee and Executive, record minutes, and provide regular reports.
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, and support of Games volunteers.
  • Assist with Games promotions, fundraising, grant applications, and special events.
  • Secure and inventory necessary equipment for the Games.
  • Set up and manage the day-to-day operations of the Games office, including office organization, supervision of office volunteers, and providing information services to the public.
  • Work with established budgets and accounting systems for the Games.
  • Adhere to City of Brooks policies and procedures to ensure the health and safety of all staff, volunteers, and the general public.
  • Be available throughout the Games to monitor, assist and respond to any issues.
  • Together with the Games Chairperson, prepare a final report, inventory, and recommendations for the Host community and the Alberta 55plus Games.
  • Other duties may be presented by the Manager, Recreation Services, or the Games Chairperson, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner.
  • Related experience in sports/games/event planning, programming, management, or supervision.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office and social media skills.
  • Experience with other Summer Games or sporting events, either as a participant, volunteer, or organizer, would be an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in recreation, sports tourism, event planning/marketing, or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Able to provide a vulnerable sector Criminal Records Check and Driver’s abstract.
