POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the HDD Division Manager, the HDD Operations SME is responsible for execution of the overall HDD field operations. They possess an intimate knowledge of HDD Operations, HDD rigs/equipment, tooling, hydraulic and electrical systems. They are capable to work onsite, in the office or remote depending on job opportunity. The HDD Operations SME will have the necessary contacts and skills to enhance the HDD business development initiatives including advising and collaborating with 3rd party vendors, pipeline companies and customers. All HDD field personnel will report to the HDD Operations SME for each specified job. The individual will be relied upon to have a field presence at MasTec’s various work sites.Preference will be given to those candidates living in and around Acheson, Calgary, Whitecourt, Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat or Brooks area however qualified candidates based in other Alberta locations will also be considered.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Supervise and lead HDD field personnel and manage related activities for each specified job
• Provide technical operational direction to crew, company employees and subcontractors present on assigned projects
• Initiate the maintenance, repair, and optimize HDD equipment as per maintenance strategy to maximize safety and reliability
• Ensure JHAs and SWPs are up to date and being implemented in the field
• When required, assist in explaining equipment related information to clients on site
• Promote equality in the workplace and adopt appropriate behavior when interacting with colleagues ·
• Cooperate with all matters relating to health and safety, including following safe working procedures

• When required, collaborates with MasTec Canadas corporate HDD managers to:
• Plan, direct, and assist with the selection of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) tooling, fleet equipment, and auxiliary support equipment for assigned projects
• Provide remote and/or onsite technical support or root cause analysis
• Assist with bid submissions and supports overall project management efforts for each job

• Develop preventative maintenance strategies (avoid over maintaining)
• Create, read and interpret manufacturing drawings – welding procedures, IFC drawings, etc.
• Provide remote (phone/text/ team) technical support to field operations
• Act as a role model for MasTec’s Core values, behaving in ways that are in alignment with MasTec’s ways of working while encouraging other to do so as well

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 10+ years experience of working or managing HDD rigs and equipment
• Mechanical experience of working with light and heavy equipment
• Experience with working with field personnel to optimize HDD operations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for promoting and living out MasTec Canada’s 6 Core Values
• Knowledge of HDD tooling including drill bits, reamers, directional tooling
• Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment
• Knowledge of HDD safety requirements and practices
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Industry knowledge of Drilling Fluids and disposal management
• Ability to conceptualize designs for unique solutions based on operational challenges.
• Industry knowledge of horizontal drill equipment management work processes and procedures
• Ability to trouble shoot and conduct root cause analysis of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license and current clean drivers abstract is required with ability to travel to remote locations
