  • Post-secondary Education or Relevant Training
health or social sciences field preferred
  • Experienced in working with diverse and multicultural populations
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and adults in large and small group settings
-A combination of relevant training, education and experience may be considered-Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide Individual emotional support (supportive or reflective listening, exploratory questioning, bias-free responses, etc.) regarding current and/or specific problems in the emotional and social/relationship domain from September to June to identified students of Grasslands (no more than 50% of the allotted work hours)
  • Act as case-coordinator for those children and youth who are identified as having emotional, behavioral or social concerns—specifically, this role would be to act as a liaison between school administration and community agencies as well as between the school administration and the parent(s).
  • Identify, provide and/or to facilitate age-appropriate and culturally sensitive universal programming to enhance the emotional/social well-being of their school population.
  • facilitate referrals to community agencies or programs.
  • Complete notes of individual sessions and phone calls to ensure continuity of care for the student and to fulfill ethical requirements of those regulated by a health profession.
  • Work collaboratively with other community agencies or programs.
  • Engage in screening processes to determine severity of child/youth’s concerns (GAIN SS for jr/sr high, elementary screen tool to be determined).
  • Engage in assessment activities for the purpose of case planning only
  • Provide information to the community (teachers, parents, Brooks and area residents) to foster understanding of mental health issues, including trauma; to provide suggestions or alternatives on how to enhance personal development on a ‘community’ level; to participate in community activities that facilitate emotional/social wellness.
  • Provide on a group or individual basis, information and advice as well as skill-building activities, regarding the self-regulation of feelings and behaviors; healthy lifestyle, including risk management and refusal skills; executive functions such as planning, problem solving, and decision-making; friendship or relationship skills including communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, empathy and accountability; coping skills including self-calming, stress management, and resiliency; mastery skills relating to self-esteem and self-efficacy.
  • Be a consistent and positive role model and emotionally responsive to children and youth
  • Help youth complete developmental tasks and achieve goals, as well as expand opportunities for growth through leadership activities.
  • Facilitate a psychologically safe school environment, and establish positive expectations for children and youth.

  • Able to deliver programming and initiatives through public speaking

  • Strong computer skills; able to pick up new and existing programs relate to the job quickly

  • Valid class 5 driving license
  • Access to a vehicle and able to provide a clean drivers abstract
