We deliver SFU’s day-to-day operational and administrative needs through the work of Ancillary Services; Facilities Services; Finance; IT Services; and Safety & Risk Services. Join our growing team as we build new solutions and services to support SFU’s academic and research mission.The Lead Systems Administrator is responsible for taking a lead role in the planning, development, implementation, deployment and support of the Red Hat Linux infrastructure, whether physical, virtual, or cloud-based. Additionally, the individual in this position will provide monitoring, maintenance and support of the RedHat infrastructure management platforms along with providing input on ways to improve stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment. The role serves as a functional and technical expert; and provides technical mentorship and guidance to the team. Acting as a subject matter expert and point of contact for external vendors, the Lead Systems Administrator is responsible for optimizing the quality of the servers architecture, as well as providing innovative solutions on custom development to meet the universitys functional and technical requirements.Qualifications:Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field and 7 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Fluent with programming languages (Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, bash).
  • Expert knowledge and practical experience with VMWare and Linux virtualization technologies.
  • Expert knowledge of RedHat Ansible Automation and RedHat Satellite infrastructure management platforms and related products and technologies.
  • Good understanding of a VM lifecycle in a Cloud environment.
  • Demonstrated skill in capacity planning, problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Demonstrated skill in planning, layout, configuring and maintaining complex infrastructure environments in Linux and/or Windows
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, teamwork, and mentorship skills.
  • Excellent analytical reasoning, problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
