Aspire Bakeries champions the values of Integrity, Ownership, Customer Focus, Creativity and Care to help us deliver on People Safety, Food Safety, Quality and Collaboration.Position PurposeManage Health & Safety, Claims Management and Sustainability ProtocolsKey AccountabilitiesDevelop and implement safety, sustainability and injury/claims management programs at the Burnaby bakery. Develop COR and sustainability strategy.ResponsibilitiesDevelop yearly safety budgetsMonitor and report on budget statusMonitor and report on safety performanceComplete safety inspectionsChair the Safety CommitteeDevelop employee welfare program such as ergonomics issues, stretching programs etcDevelop and train employees on safety aspectsKey contributor to new employee orientation programEnsure implementation of Safety Program as per WCB requirementsLeader of Sustainability programDevelop and control WHMIS programManage hearing conservation programCoordinate contractors activities as required with Maintenance ManagerEnsure contractor WCB approvals, plant safety program orientation is completedInvolvement in capital projectsFormulate ACE’s (Capital Expenditure Requests) for safety and sustainability projectsParticipation in continuous improvement projectsTake a leadership role in local senior management teamBring forth new ideas to improve on existing production processesPropose energy conservation ideasEnsure yearly code inspection certificates as required with Maintenance Manager (Elec. permit, Boiler inspections, Fire Alarm Inspection etc)Ensure all annual safety certificates and training is completed as per regulationsInvolved in packaging stewardship programsOther safety responsibilities as deemed necessary to fulfill the roleAdhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbookKeep work area clean and clear of hazardsReport any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries immediatelyUse all prescribed personal protective equipmentEnsure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followedMonitor and enforce GMP compliance by all operatorsEnsure all work areas are clean and organized and free of spills, water, wood, and debrisFollow up with Health, Safety & Security Manager any reports of unusual people or behavioursPerform other duties as requiredRequirementsSkills, Experience & QualificationsDegree/diploma in a safety discipline preferable3-5 years supervisor leadership in safetyProficient Computer Skills in MS Office, including ExcelAbility to work in different plants, with some travel involvedExcellent analytical, problem solving, and project management skills – financial/accounting experience an asset. Has the ability to read and interpret financial and performance reportsStrong Leadership and communication skills (both Verbal & Written)Ability to interact with all levels of businessStrong oral & written skills, proven ability to communicate in an ESL work environmentPreferredExperience in building high functioning teams; managing and developing peopleExcellent planning, analytical & organizational skillsAble to work and maintain composure under pressure, meet deadlines in a fast paced environmentPhysical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
