Job Description

People like you!This is a skilled trades position involving installation, repairs, calibration and preventative maintenance on a variety of electrical and mechanical control systems for water distribution pump stations, sewer lift stations, water pressure reducing stations, reservoirs and other facilities. Visits pumping stations as scheduled to check and test pumps and equipment for proper operation; records station and equipment conditions at time of visit; reads and logs data from various meters, gauges, counters and recorders; makes adjustments and modifications to maintain established standards; records pump and equipment test results. Maintains, monitors and responds to SCADA alarm systems to locate trouble source; diagnoses issues, conducts repairs, and restores pumping operation. Plans, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of one or more subordinates. Coordinates and inspects work done by contractors. Performs repairs, calibrates, installs, and conducts preventative maintenance on a variety of mechanical and control systems and components in the City’s water and sewer facilities; dismantles, moves, assembles and installs a variety of pumps, machinery and equipment; performs vibration and Thermography analysis and laser alignment; assists journeymen, technicians and/or engineers in major maintenance and repair work. Tests the operation of standby gasoline or diesel fueled engines; performs general maintenance; services batteries; draws oil samples for analysis. Sets up and executes complex rigging lift plans to remove pumps, machinery and equipment using overhead cranes. Reads and interprets work from blueprints, schematics and working drawings. Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance program; works in conjunction with a supervisor to update and maintain the overall pumps and controls maintenance plan. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical training related to the work plus sound related experience as a journeyman Industrial Mechanic (Millwright). Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment used in the care and operation of various water and sewer pumping stations. Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work; and of components applicable to the operation and control of water and sewer facilities. Working knowledge of hypo-chlorination practices, including safety and repair, the transportation of materials classified as dangerous goods and the use, maintenance, repair of back flow devices and pressure reducing valves; and of all aspects and requirements of water/sewer pump stations including but not limited to pumps, motors, VFDs, soft starts, MCCs, generators, instrumentation, controls, and PLC programming. Ability to take, interpret and record readings from a variety of meters, gauges, counters, controllers and recorders; to plan, assign, supervise and review the work of one or more subordinates; and to read, interpret and work from blueprints, schematics and working drawings. Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform the work. Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and equipment used in the work. Drivers License for the Province of British Columbia, Certificate of Qualification – Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) are required, and the position is required to obtain EOCP Wastewater Collection – Level 1 and EOCP Water Distribution – Level 1, after appointment.Please apply online by January 4, 2023.All external applicants are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as a condition of hire.
