Job Description

RoleReporting to the Field Area Manager, the Telecom Technologist/ Technician installs, manages and/or maintains equipment used to control and monitor systems, equipment, and processes. The Telecom Tech ensures these systems and processes operate efficiently, reliably and safely. They provide expertise for the conceptual design, programming and ensure substation integration to customer(s) NOC is performing properly. They also perform end to end testing on communication circuits for peripheral devices. At NERC critical asset sites, they ensure equipment and configuration meets CIP regulatory requirements.** This is a field-based role with approximately 80% of your time in the field. REG covers accommodations and provides a LOA. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintenance and installation of telecommunications equipment and various telecommunication sites in the area and or district.
  • Working with Telecomm equipment such as: Microwave Radios, Industrial Wireless Systems, SCADA Communication Systems, VSAT, CDMA, Phone Systems, Digital Multiplexer (MPLS), DC Power systems, Networks (LAN/WAN), VHF Radio Systems, and associated equipment.
  • Regularly interface with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism, including but not limited to other employees, management, vendors, and customers.
  • Work side by side with engineering, double checking drawings and assist in DBM.
  • Interacting with clients in the field and over the phone regarding job acceptance and outage planning.
  • And other duties as seen fit
Requirements
  • Diploma/Certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology or similar from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Experience in Field Testing and Commissioning is considered an asset but not a requirement.
  • Experience in substation would be a major asset, ie. 144kV and 240kV
  • General construction experience would be an asset.
  • Past experience with testing software will be beneficial.
  • Competent and comfortable working with computers and within Excel.
  • Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety issues in the workplace.
  • Posses a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Able to work comfortably at heights.
  • Willing to work out of town and on rotation, i.e. 4 on 3 off work schedule.
