Job Description

Agilus is recruiting for an Electrical Engineer in the utilities sector in Calgary, Alberta.Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking assigned electrical, instrumentationamp; controls engineering or multi-discipline small to medium sized projects for the fleet of power stations. Supervising and performing engineering and project management work, as requested by clients across the business.
  • Providing technical leadership of assigned power generation engineering activities for the operating fleet; including supporting timely investigationamp; troubleshooting of electrical equipment problems and providing sound recommendations.
  • Interpreting and applying industry standards and company best practices and methodologies to ensure code compliance but also balance cost, quality, and reliability objectives.
  • Supporting major maintenance activities such as turnarounds and unplanned outages at the plants, including development of work scopes and inspection plans.
  • Providing technical expertise to support interactions with regulatory bodies (AESO, AUC, etc.) and lead/assist with regulatory process execution from project inception to final completion.
  • Providing technical leadership for power generation project development activities including technology assessment, conceptual design, bid evaluation, and contract reviews.
  • Assessing, recruiting, and managing consultants, contractors and suppliers as required in fulfilling project resource requirements.
  • Researching and analyzing technical solutions and equipment options in terms of cost and performance for engineering projects.
Successful candidates will have:
  • Electrical Engineering degree and registered P.Eng in good standing with APEGA and qualifies for inter-provincial mobility.
  • 7-10+ years of relevant industry experience in thermal/gas fired power generation, or a comparable industry. Consideration will be given to individuals with more extensive applicable experience.
  • Experience with power station operations, maintenance, development, construction, and commissioning is an asset.
  • Experience with Switchgear/MCCs, Motors, Generators, Transformers, Power System Analysis, Protectionamp; Coordination, Turbine Control Systems, DCS, PLCs, Fire Alarm Systems and SCADA.
  • Familiarity with the Transmission/Distribution connection process in Alberta is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiar with the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
