Job Description

Horticulturist IIThe City of Campbell River is seeking an experienced permanent full-time Horticulturist IINaturally, Campbell River – Located on Vancouver Island, surrounded by the ocean and majestic mountains, the City of Campbell River offers a rare combination of a welcoming small-town feel with large- city amenities. We are a 45-minute drive from the winter and summer activities of Mount Washington, and just minutes from more than 100 km of all levels of mountain biking and hiking trails, plus easy access to the ocean, rivers and lakes for sports fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and whale watching.The job - As part of the Horticulture team and taking direction from the Horticulture Coordinator, you will perform a wide variety of skilled horticulture tasks in the design, development, and maintenance of the City’s gardens, boulevards, green spaces and trees.To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Completed Level 4 of the Landscape Horticulturist program with the Industry Training Authority of BC (ITA) or equivalent combination of education and certification. An ITA Certificate of Qualification: Landscape Horticulturist is considered an asset.
  • Have a minimum three (3) years progressive, practical horticulture experience in:
    • The design, development, construction and maintenance of landscaped areas such as parks, boulevards, walkways and sports fields;
    • In developing and implementing planting plans and designs for landscaped horticulture areas;
    • Integrated pest management including the maintenance and the application of pesticides;
  • Experience or training in directing or supervising the work of others.
  • Possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Drivers’ Licence
  • Possess a current pesticide applicators certificate
The current rate of pay for this permanent, full-time, CUPE bargaining unit positions is is $33.08 per hour based on a 40-hour work week.
