Job Description

We are a 45-minute drive from the winter and summer activities of Mount Washington, and just minutes from more than 100 km of all levels of mountain biking and hiking trails, plus easy access to the ocean, rivers and lakes for sports fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and whale watching.The Role – Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, in this leadership role, the Legislative Services Manager is responsible for the direction, organization and administration of the City’s legislative, privacy, records management and corporate property services functions. The Legislative Services Manager is designated as Corporate Officer as outlined in the BC Community Charter, and serves as the Chief Elections Officer, Freedom of Information Head, and Privacy Officer.As the Corporate Officer, the Legislative Services Manager, provides professional advice to Council, the Senior Leadership Team and other City departments in areas of expertise including corporate administration, regulatory and public hearing processes.The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional, with strong political acumen and the ability to foster trust and credibility and build relationships with a variety of internal and external parties. Strong communication, leadership, and team building skills, with a commitment to building a positive workplace culture are essential for this role.To be successful in this role you will have…

  • Post-secondary undergraduate degree from a recognized educational institution in public or business administration or a related field.
  • Certificate in Local Government Administration.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in a senior role in corporate administration or related field within local government.
  • Minimum of five years of managerial experience including three years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with politicians, senior staff, the public and the media.
  • Considerable knowledge of the Community Charter, Local Government Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Parliamentary Procedure, Regulations, Bylaws, Statues, and other applicable Acts
  • Experience related to real estate and property management within local government considered an asset.
  • Certified Municipal Clerk designation and completion of Municipal Administration Training Institute (MATI) Program courses is considered an asset for this role.
