Job Description

SPL is ‘off the grid’ and has its own hydro plant, alternative energy supplies, generator, small logging & milling operations and septic systems. As the Maintenance Supervisor, you will oversee the repair, replacement and upkeep of these systems and the physical plant.The successful candidate, responsible for the day-to-day activity and output of the department, will direct, motivate and coach the maintenance staff. As a key member of both the SPL and the Maintenance team, the Supervisor will have an important communications role, as well as directly contributing as a service provider / skilled tradesperson for the department. Maintenance plays a major role at SPL in numerous ways, and helps provide for the safety and comfort of guests and staff. The position requires a positive and upbeat attitude with a drive to deliver outstanding customer service. In this hands-on role, working alongside the maintenance staff, and performing the same or similar tasks, will be necessary. This position may require shift work during the summer season, primarily in the afternoon / evening. The position will report to and work closely with the SPL President.Duties:

  • Oversee the repair, replacement and upkeep of the systems and the physical plant.
  • Supervise the Maintenance staff, providing coaching and mentoring as required
  • Be skilled in various building trades (electrical, plumbing, construction, septic, water, painting etc.) and/or have a ticket in one of them
  • Act as a general contractor, supervisor or worker as required
  • Be a self starter and organizer, able to accept direction and supervise others
  • Develop, communicate and manage department’s work schedules
  • Address and/or report any security issues to management
Required Skills:
  • Possess a relevant trades ticket or certification
  • Be able to perform shift work (day/evening) as required
  • Problem solving, communication, multi tasking and team building
  • Able to respond quickly and effectively in a dynamic environment
  • Ethics and Integrity
  • Accountability, dependability and attention to detail
  • Be respective of staff and guest privacy requirements
  • Class V Driver’s License
Preferences:
  • the preferred candidate would live on site
  • Experience in the tourism industry
  • First Aid certification
