Job Description

Are you looking to get into the area of property assessment Do you have knowledge of multi-family and commercial property valuation, assessment and appraisal theory If so, our Real Estate Analyst may be the position you #39;ve been looking for!The Real Estate Analyst is responsible for supporting the Organization’s assessment and determination of the equitable application of property tax across the Organization’s portfolio of real estate assets.The Real Estate Analyst is also responsible for the preparation and review of tax estimates for future developments and operating budgets through research and data collection. The Property Tax Analyst will analyze preliminary values, current value assessments and tax classifications to determine if they accurately reflect market value.Your Contributions to the team include:

  • Conduct research and collect data concerning municipal tax assessments, rental data, real estate sales, comparable assessments, and other market information.
  • Assist in the revision of municipal tax assessments for compliance with accepted appraisal theory, provincial legislation, and valid assessment policy directives.
  • Compile and maintain a detailed database of multi-family properties in four provinces and over 20 cities.
  • Ensure data collected is entered accurately into the company database.
  • Monitor local and national real estate market trends and analyze data on changing market conditions.
  • Preparing market value analysis and other reports.
  • Assist with legal argument development and evidence submission.
  • Obtain and organize supporting information during the assessment review process.
  • Ensure that all required property information, including property assessment and taxation data, is obtained, organized, and accurately reviewed.
  • Support the Manager of Property Taxation and Assessment in the preparation and review of tax estimates for future developments and operating budgets.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with assessment and taxation authorities, third-party appraisers and brokers.
What you need to be successful:
  • Post-secondary education in accounting, commerce, finance, economics or equivalent
  • Educational background relating to property assessments, property appraisals, and property tax administration is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of multi-family and commercial property valuation, assessment and appraisal theory
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to evaluate various complex issues and identify areas of concern, provide alternatives and use sound judgement.
