The careers we offer are meaningful because the work we do matters.Join us!THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN MATANE, QUEBEC.Job SummaryThe Ship Keeper is responsible for the maintenance and security of an orderly environment. The role is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of cabins and bathrooms, maintaining ship security and the removal of unauthorized personnel, and ensuring fire safety is carried out onboard.Major Responsibilities

  • Maintain an orderly environment for the captain, chief engineer and officers (e.g., make beds, sweep out cabins, clean bathrooms, empty garbage, laundry)
  • Complete fire rounds every two hours
  • Complete regular security and surveillance rounds ensuring residential areas are locked and no unauthorized personnel are present
  • Check mooring lines and boarding pass and adjust according to circumstances
  • Ensure supervision of arriving crew and report absence of crew members to the officer or first officer on duty
  • Ensure the safe delivery and storage of any after hours deliveries (e.g., kitchen, linens)
  • Ensure the temporary or contract employees work is carried out safely, paying attention to inherent risks and reporting to the captain on duty accurate and complete information
Working Conditions
  • The role is performed in an outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions and is a safety-sensitive environment with heavy moving equipment and noisy surroundings
  • The role must be capable of working in various shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and over time
Requirements
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to operate ventilation and heating systems
  • Ability to use basic firefighting systems
  • Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
