Job Description

Our client is an emerging Iron Ore company with a base of mining operations at the Mary River Property, located in the Qikiqtani Region of Nunavut on Baffin Island; one of the world’s most captivating and seldom seen destinations. They are a unique company with specialty experience on northern mining projects through all phases of Inuit consultation, permitting, construction and operation and are looking for people ready to share, build, and grow with their company.Position title: Truck and Coach Technician – Fly-in-Fly-OutSalary: $50/hr plus OTWe are on the hunt for one Truck and Coach Mechanic. Our client is an Iron Ore operation with a base of mining operations in Baffin Island. This is a fly-in/fly-out operation; we provide an allowance to get to site and all accommodations, food, and tools are provided. Truck & Coach Technicians must have have the ability to diagnose and repair a variety of vehicles, engines and trailers. Engines include Cummins, Kenworth, Detroit, Peterbilt, Freightliner, Western Star, International, Blue Bird, GMC, Ford and many others. We are looking for candidates who are not currently employed.

  • Main Accountabilities: Provide Technical Support and coaching to assist the department and the company to strive to achieve their goals of "ZERO HARM"
  • Troubleshoot and repair of heavy duty and medium duty diesel powered trucks including:
  • The disassembly/overhaul of engines or engine components, transmissions, refrigeration equipment, clutches and other assemblies
  • The diagnosis of equipment problems; identifying and replacing, as required, worn or broken parts, making all necessary adjustments and alignments
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Maintain proper organization of the maintenance shop
  • Advise Supervisor on work performed and future repair requirements.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Other duties as required
  • Main Qualifications: A valid 310T Truck and Coach Technician Licence or Heavy Equipment Technician (On-Road) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in repair and service of diesel equipment both in the shop and in the field
  • Proven track record in safe work practices and quality workmanship
  • Ability to work alone and unsupervised in remote areas
  • Focused, energetic and organized with superior attention to detail and a sense of urgency
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Motivated and hard working with a professional attitude
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Language: Speak English, Read English, Write English (Inuktitut would be an asset).
  • Motivated to work under harsh Arctic temperatures
  • Previous mining experience is an asset.
