Job Description

Laboratory Technician responsibilities will be to perform routine technical tasks involving laboratory and test equipment operation including:Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the operation of the Laboratory and Environment Dept. by being part of a strong team that is focused on safety, experience, and efficiency.
  • Routine analytical and field testing including BOD, COD, Stack Sampling for Air Emissions (SOx, NOx, Particulate, TRS, ClO2 etc), microbiological effluent treatment monitoring, groundwater sampling, process chemical testing, aquatic receiving environment studies etc.
  • Reviewing data trends and anomalies, working with stakeholders in Operations to identify process variations
  • Perform calibrations of laboratory test equipment
  • Send out samples for offsite analytical testing
  • Troubleshooting and basic equipment maintenance, maintaining accurate records and reporting.
  • Maintaining inventory of lab supplies.
  • Improve and follow standard operating procedures, support of ISO 9001:2015 and 14000:2015 standards, QAQC Programs, familiar with BC Sampling Guidelines
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Google sheets etc.)
  • Experience with software trend applications like PARCview would be an asset
Education and Experience
  • Degree (B.Sc.) or Diploma (Dip.) in Science with a focus in Chemistry or related field
  • 1-3 years of previous pulp mill, industrial laboratory or environmental testing experience would be a strong asset.
  • Considerable knowledge of laboratory and sampling techniques and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001, 17025, or QA/QC Laboratory programs an asset
What to expectThe Lab Technologist will be a part of our dynamic Environment and Laboratory departments. Our in-house laboratory is responsible for completing all the process testing required for maintaining and optimizing the pulp production chemical circuit, as well as conducting the majority of environmental sampling required for all provincial Air, Land, and Water permits and compliance under the federal Pulp and Paper Effluent Regulations.
