Job Description

Writing Centre TutorThe School of University Arts and Sciences is seeking a Writing Centre Tutor to engage in one-on-one and group tutorial sessions on the Castlegar campus.Location CastlegarDepartment EducationSubdepartment School of University Arts and SciencesEmployment Group SCFARecruitment Type Internal / ExternalAppointment Type CasualFTE 0Hrs / Week up to 16 hours/weekDesired Start Date 19/10/2021End Date (if applicable) 20/04/2022Closing Date 15/10/2021Competition # 12155Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage with students with one-on-one tutorial
  • Introduce alternative or expanded information to enhance student understanding
  • Lead workshops on specific topics or writing assignments
  • Collaborate with other tutors and instructors
  • Attend school meetings
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds of students
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both orally and in writing)
  • Exemplary understanding of grammar and sentence structure, research and citation, and strategies for composing in a variety of discursive modes
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in English or in a related discipline
This is a short-term, casual position (up to 16 hours/week) commencing approximately October 19, 2021 and ending April 20, 2022. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement, Schedule G – Tutors. The salary range is $26.23 - $32.49 per hour and is based on qualifications and experience.Quick Apply
