THE OPPORTUNITYWe are recruiting for a Shipping Coordinator (1-year contract) to join our Chemainus SawmillWhat You’ll Do: The Shipping Coordinator is responsible for the logical and orderly shipping and receiving of lumber products within the operation. Working closely with the Production Coordinator, Yard Supervisor and the hourly shipping crew, the Shipping Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that our products are delivered to our customers on schedule and in a cost-efficient fashion.Who You Are: Our ideal candidate is a strong communicator, with 3-5 years’ experience working within the lumber and manufacturing industry. You are organized, detail orientated, and possess a strong personal commitment to safe work practices. Ideally, you have experience working as a Shipping Coordinator and experience working with Lumbertrack would be considered a definite asset.RESPONSIBILITIESDemonstrates safety leadership by actively participating in the operation’s safety program; following all identified rules and regulations and by setting a good example to others;Support supervisors, to ensure that the shippers, lift trucks, and truck drivers are following all on site safety procedures and policies;Support supervisors to ensure safety procedures are being followed; safety protocols regarding yard storage and Mill Drive Program;Identify hazards and risks;Work with logistics to ensure cost efficiency;Optimize volume on trucks to ensure efficiency;Support Production Coordinator and Yard Supervisor to achieve KPI’s for yard and shipping processes;Support yard supervisor with hourly shippers, yard lift trucks and compactors;Relieve Documentation Specialist for vacation relief or for extended periods as required;Arrange and coordinate inbound & outbound shipments of lumber;Prepare shipments in Lumbertrack and EXCEL;Converses and works closely with all divisional staff as well as other WFP Production Coordinators, Lumber Sales and Trucking Logistics;Communicate priorities for the loading of trucks; andCoordinate with Sales and Credit Managers for shipments.QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience1-3 years’ experience within a Shipping Coordinator role is considered an asset;3-5 years’ experience within the lumber manufacturing industry;Grading and Tally Tickets are assets;Experience with excel and Lumbertrack is preferred;Experience scheduling is preferred;Experience in a safety sensitive environment; andExperience forecasting is an asset.Skills, Knowledge and Required CompetenciesStrong ability to communicate verbally and written;Understanding of lumber grades and lumber products is considered an asset;Knowledge of mobile equipment; andProficient in MS Office.YOUR CAREERAt Western Forest Products, we believe our most significant asset is our people.
