Job Description

Position Summary: As a member of the Parks team, the Parks Worker, Beach Attendant is responsible for the seasonal upkeep, maintenance and monitoring of the beach areas and gardening duties at Anniversary Park.Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides seasonal labour in the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of:
  • Park maintenance: maintains cleanliness of the park, including picking litter and weeds, changing garbage cans, cleaning washrooms; performs general gardening duties, including weeding, edging, cultivating and deadheading flowers.
  • Equipment upkeep: maintains cleanliness and upkeep of equipment; reports broken or faulty equipment to the Parks Coordinator.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Appropriate and responsible use of confidential information; maintains confidentiality and security of all information related to the City.

  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participates in workplace safety initiatives, participate in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits, ensures compliance with the City’s Health and Safety Management System, reports and assists in the analysis of near misses or incidents.
  • Participates as a member of the Chestermere Emergency Response team in preparing and enabling the community to respond in the event of a local or regional disaster.

  • Grade 12 or GED preferred.
Required Certificates and/or Documentation:
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and Drive’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the City.
  • Criminal Record Check deemed satisfactory by the City.
  • Valid Standard First Aid AED/CPR Level C certification.
Expected Skills and Attributes:
  • Working knowledge of parks maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to operate appropriate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and deal effectively with people.
  • Ability to read and understand pesticide labels.
  • Basic communication skills, both verbal and written; maintain ongoing communication to anticipate and prevent potential problems, develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other seasonal staff, the public, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong work ethic and highly motivated; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to action requests in a timely matter.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Working Conditions:
  • Regular outdoor working conditions.
  • Regular, physically demanding work, including standing, walking and crouching for extended periods of time.
  • Driving regularly between sites to perform duties.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required.
