Job Description

Reports To: VP of ManufacturingResponsible For:

  • Production Coordinators, Supervisors, and all production staff
  • Production Administration staff
Summary:The Production Manager position is someone who keeps a company functioning at the highest level of efficiency to minimize risk and maximize profit. Their primary duties are creating policies and procedures, scheduling, and acting as a team leader to ensure staff meet their potential and the team functions at peak efficiency.Success in this Role
  • Accident rate for the plant will be no more than 10 medical aids per year and a further 10% reduction per year after
  • On time delivery from the plant to shipping will maintain at a 95% on time delivery.
  • Lead time (order to delivery) will be maintained at 4-6 weeks lead time from production scheduled to delivery of product to shipping.
  • Rework and remake will be no more than 10%.
  • Material waste will be reviewed and corrective actions to better utilize product.
  • Employee turnover for the plant will be maintained below 10% turnover.
  • There will be a capable successor in place and effective back-up leaders in place throughout the plant, within two years of starting this role.
Job Duties:Production
  • Responsible for plant production, meeting customer requirements and maintaining the orderly and productive operation of planned activities.
  • Set the target productivity levels and ensure they are achieved on a monthly basis.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice manufacturing vison, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Help develop and input labor and material elements of manufacturing budgets. Hold responsibility for those aspects of the budget. Provide input to equipment and facility elements of the manufacturing budgets.
  • Establish daily production schedule for the plant based on standard work and have systems in place to track performance against the standards.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels for the plant, given projected production.
Safety
  • Liaise with the Human Resources/Health and Safety department, in order to implement companywide procedures and training programs.
  • Ensure that the plant operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.
People Development
  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing manufacturing team that meets agreed objectives, and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.
  • Under direction, set department objectives/KPIs. Provide regular, concrete and effective feedback on ongoing performance to direct reports.
  • Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, managing holiday allowances, training, development, appraisal, attendance, disciplinary issues and daily supervision to maximize efficient productivity.
  • Ensure that effective and consistent training is delivered as required to support standard work and process improvements.
Continuous Improvement
  • Establish and sustain practices that drive continuous improvement throughout the plant in a way that aligns with corporate business goals, with a focus on people and material use.
  • Where possible, have those practices conform to corporate initiatives related to continuous improvement.
New Product Introduction
  • Provide input as requested related to manufacturing/assembly issues for new product development. Under direction, prepare introduction plans for the start-up of production, including workstation layout, staffing, and work design to achieve quality, safety and environmental standards.
  • Coordinate the accurate and on-time introduction of new products by working with the design, QA and engineering teams.
Projects
  • Participate in cross functional projects as required.
  • Identify appropriate individuals from within the plant to participate in project teams and ensure appropriate backfill.
Other Matters
  • Attend various meetings and action/communicate instructions.
  • Produce written reports and make presentations.
  • Provide technical expertise to the team.
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example, and ensure that each leader in the plant understands the standards and behaviors expected of them
  • Takes initiative to expand your own skills
Experience/Education:
  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in business or engineering and/or 3-5 years’ experience in Operations Management.
  • Solid knowledge of Human Resources practices and Health and Safety practices.
  • A background in window manufacturing would be an asset.
  • Have experience in developing and coaching leaders.
  • Can identify deficiencies and find root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft programs and the ability to develop KPI’s graphs.
