POSITION SUMMARYReporting to the Associate Director, Information Management and Security, the Data Architect ensures that enterprise data is clearly defined and architected appropriately and maintained with integrity and high performance.The Data Architect leverages their database knowledge to collect and analyze data to assist in day to day business issue resolution and decision making. The role will involve the design, testing, implementation, and maintenance of data models, structures, definition, and lineage for both on-prem and cloud native applications. This will be executed by coordinating requirements, schedules, and activities; contributing to team meetings; troubleshooting issues and resolving production problems along with supporting users by developing documentation and assistance tools. Candidate has autonomy to research and deploy the best tool/technology for the task at hand, including but not limited to libraries for statistical modeling, geospatial analysis, ML, NLP, graph theory, timeseries analysis, and more.RESPONSIBILITIES

• Enhance, transform, analyze, and combine datasets in support of answering questions and implementing research ideas across sectors and data categories
• Design configurable tools that encapsulate analysis logic and enable other technical users to answer questions quickly and at scale
• Improve our platform through the creation of tools and processes that streamline, scale, and standardize our ability to evaluate, clean, aggregate, validate, and disseminate data
• Research, test, and deploy cutting-edge techniques and tools in pursuit of the above responsibilities
• Communicate technical methods to non-technical stakeholders and translate open-ended questions into data-driven answers
• Develop and maintain the application data model for on-prem and cloud native data repositories
• Design data structures and relationships that optimize data loading, storage, and retrieval
• Develop and maintain data dictionaries and data lineage documentation for data models and sets
• Design and implement data access and security controls for both on-prem and cloud services
• Leverage cloud (preferably Microsoft Fabric) best practices to ensure data models are optimized for performance and scalability
• Develop and maintain data migration and synchronization processes between various systems, sources, and AWS/Azure services
• Design and implement processes to monitor and action data quality
• Perform initial tests to cover functional and non-functional requirements before users do their UAT.
• Verify implementation, perform functional testing, and deliver the system/module in production.
• Maintain and build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including research teams and management, third-party data vendors, and buy-side client
• Participate in and influence the design, planning and implementation of enterprise projects and initiatives regarding database system performance and administration
• Design and implement technical enhancements to the enterprise data warehouse, including database design, ETL processes, access and security
• Develop ETL processes and re-usable packages according to standards reflecting industry-specific best practices
• Support the implementation of Business Intelligence and PowerBI solutions for company-wide performance reporting needs
• Analyze data and identify gaps, data quality and integrity issues
• Interpret data and analyze using applicable statistical and other techniques to identify trends and patterns
• Create and maintain system documentation, including a data dictionary.
• Perform database administrator functions including managing database instances, user access, database security profiles, optimization and performance tuning, capacity planning, disaster recovery

QUALIFICATIONS:

• University degree with preference for Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Quantitative Finance, and related disciplines
• DBA Certification not limited to Microsoft Certified Solution Associate (MSCA) SQL Server
• 5 -10 years of DBA experience with MS SQL Server, SQL Server Analysis Services, and SQL Server Integration Services
• 5 - 10 years’ experience with data architecting, large-scale data modelling, and business intelligence.
• Demonstrates experience in implementing enterprise data management, processes, procedures, and decision support.
• Strong proficiency with Python; Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Pandas, and/or Apache Spark
• Experience with ERP (SAP S4HANA) systems is an asset.
• Demonstrates experience with developing business requirements, entity relationship planning, database design and reporting structures etc.
• Demonstrates experience developing database documentation including entity relationship diagrams, database schemas, data dictionaries etc.

• Demonstrates experience in building and maintaining data marts, including test and production environments.
• Experience working with large datasets from a variety of systems and sources.
• Proficiency with source code control and release management.
• Experience building Microsoft Azure, SQL Databases/Data Warehouses is an asset.
• Experience with XML, JAVA, and PHP is an asset
• Experience working with API integration software is an asset.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, research and problem solving skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong ability to communicate results of analysis in a clear and effective manner.
• Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
