Town of ComoxExternal PostingCLERK II – ACCOUNTINGCOMMUNITY CENTREThe Town of Comox invites applications for the Clerk II – Accounting position at the Community Centre. This is a regular, full-time (35 hours per week) union position (CUPE Local 556) with a current rate of pay of $30.13 per hour plus benefits, and includes a three month probation period.Hours of work are currently scheduled: Monday 11:00 am – 7:00 pm; Tuesday 1:45 pm – 9:45 pm; Wednesday 1:45 pm – 9:45 pm; Thursday 11:00 am – 7:00 pm; and Friday 5:45 am – 1:45 pm. The weekly schedule may change due to operational needs.Reporting directly to the Clerk III Reception Supervisor, the successful candidate is responsible for preparing cash floats, daily cash sheets, invoices and customer refunds, and other accounting functions. In addition to accounting-related responsibilities, the Clerk II – Accounting provides customer service for all aspects of recreation business including program registrations, questions, and membership sales. The successful candidate will provide support to staff and is required to deal with the public in a professional manner at all times.Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Preparing cash floats, daily cash sheets, invoices, and customer refunds;
  • Responsible for reconciling gift cards and other accounting functions; and,
  • Performing a variety of reception duties including telephone, email and in-person customer service, program registrations, fitness pass sales, POS, report printing, preparing refund requests, etc.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
  • Completion of Grade 12, as well as a post-secondary Business Administration certificate – accounting stream, or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Sound working knowledge of basic accounting procedures;
  • Minimum of two years bookkeeping/accounting experience;
  • Minimum of two years direct office experience;
  • Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, Outlook;
  • Experience with recreation management software is preferred;
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member;
  • Ability to carry out instructions in written, verbal or diagram form;
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times;
  • Excellent telephone manners and strong interpersonal skills;
  • Current First Aid Level – Community, CPR C and AED preferred; and
  • Current clean Criminal Record check
