Through our robust product engineering, outstanding tooling capabilities and diverse process expertise, we continue to bring lightweight and innovative products to market.Role SummaryThe Weld Technician conducts tests and evaluates data to assist personnel in development and application of new or improved welding process or equipment, welding techniques, procedures, and practices. Recommends new developments and applications. Minimum QualificationsMust possess either a valid Certificate of Qualification for a relevant skilled trade, or equivalent in post-secondary education and subsequent training.Minimum of five (5) years of working experience in a similar role, preferably within the automotive industry.Demonstrable and strong command of the English language in both written and spoken forms.Possession of the tools required to successfully carry out the responsibilities of the job.Proficiency in FANUC robot programming.Pre-existing knowledge of MEDAR and Lincoln welders. Key ResponsibilitiesAdminister and execute the preventative maintenance program.Safe and efficient repair and maintenance to Plant facilities and equipment as required including working with external contractors.Develop and standardize resistance welding processes with various materials (HSLA steels, AHSS, HSS)Implement systems to elongate electrode life (stepper programs, dressers, etc.)Respond to Corrective Action Reports (define root cause, implement corrections, and evaluate implementation)Get involved in troubleshooting of resistance (spot and projection) welding issues and MIG welding.Develop technical documentation system for processes. Other DutiesStandardize welding consumables where possible to achieve cost reduction.Improve, develop, and standardize destructive and non-destructive tests.Maintain a database with records of changes and welding schedules by machine/part.Support maintenance of spare parts list.Routine maintenance of production equipment to ensure the most efficient flow of production with the least possible downtime.Support welding development, new schedules, and corrections on improvements as well as robot programming and scheduled maintenance.Work with production scheduler to schedule repairs ensuring scheduler is aware when work assignments cannot be completed as planned. Core CompetenciesAssertive and self-motivated, able to analyze and prioritize tasks.Intimate knowledge of equipment and processes relating to automated welding and robotics.Open to new ideas, change and continuous improvement with the capacity to transform ideas into actions.Skilled in root cause analysis, troubleshooting techniques and resolution of equipment failures.Understanding of communications methods and the appropriate use/frequency as circumstances warrant.Creative problem-solving skills are essential. Physical DemandsWorks under general supervision of Supervisor or Designee.Wears all PPE including company provided uniforms.Required to carry out routine, repetitive tasks such as reaching, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, lifting, packing, stacking, and bending.Regularly exposed to noise, temperature change, lubricants, and vibrations.Works a nights shift with occasional overtime if Customer requirements.
