Branch:Planning and Development ServicesPosition Type:CUPE Local 556Number of Positions:1Salary:$32.12 per hour (interim rating)Employment Type:Regular Full-TimeCompetition Type:Internal Posting – Current CVRD CUPE 556 Employees onlyDate posted:August 9, 2022Closing date:August 23, 2022 - 3:00pmWe are accepting applications from CVRD CUPE Local 556 members only for a full-time Planning and Development Services Representative to join our Planning and Development Services team. The Planning and Development Services Representative provides front line customer and clerical support services for the Planning and Building departments. Reporting to the Manager of Planning Services, the primary responsibilities of this role include:Assisting customers at the counter or over the phone with detailed responses to enquiries, including zoning and building regulations, Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) policies, procedures, building permit process and inspection requirements, the GIS mapping system (IMAP) and other information sources, and the roles and requirements of other departments and agencies;

  • Collaborating with and providing support to the senior planning development services representative in communication to applicants or potential applicants;
  • Entering and retrieving applicable building data into and from appropriate databases;
  • Identifying commonalities in public feedback to improve processes and communication;
  • Accepting applications and explaining program qualifiers to assist the Planning and Development Services Branch;
  • Assisting with developing communication materials for the public;
  • Communicating with other CVRD departments, government agencies, engineers, other registered professionals, property owners and contractors with respect to routine planning and building issues.
Our ideal candidate is:
  • Service-oriented with a professional approach;
  • Familiar with the mandate, policies and programs of the Comox Valley Regional District and the practices and processes involved in local government office administration;
  • Able to work collaboratively as a member of a team and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Educated in office administration including completion of a six month up to one year course from a recognized post-secondary institution following Grade 12 graduation (completion of courses in customer service or conflict resolution is preferred);
  • Experienced in working with the general public in local government administration, the building industry or a related field with over one year and up to and including two years of directly related experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered);
  • Adept at time management, problem solving, and organization;
  • An advanced user of the Microsoft Office Suite and proficient in electronic filing and SharePoint applications. Knowledge of land use programs and iMap is an asset.
