Job Description

W.H. Excavating is growing and looking for an experienced skid steer operator to join our team this winter season!COMPANY SUMMARYSince 2004, W.H. Excavating has been operating in beautiful Creston, British Columbia. We are a family-owned excavation and contracting business with professional expertise in commercial and residential projects. Jobs include water lines, gas lines, land-clearing, backfill compaction, grading services, driveways, retaining walls, commercial demolitions, fencing, concrete breaking, snow removal and sanding.We are looking for an experienced skid steer operator to help us at contract sites with snow removal and ice control. We offer competitive wages based on experience and proven abilities over time.RESPONSIBILITIES- Must be able to operate the equipment in a safe and productive manner- Demonstrate skill in the identification of key hazards and use of strategies to work safely, such as; stability of ground, stability of machine, and awareness of position, clearance, safe movement, other machinery/vehicles/workers- Be able to start-up and shut down equipment safely, by following pre-operational checks, start-up and shutdown procedures- Help maintain and monitor equipment, following maintenance procedures and monitoring gauges- Advise the supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs- Complete other related job site tasks as requiredREQUIREMENTSAll successful candidates must be able to:- Communicate proficiently in English - verbally and written- Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or better)- Carry at least 25-50 lbs- Possess an exceptionally high level of hand-eye coordination- Demonstrate attention to quality and details- Work cooperatively, independently, and with a team in a fast-paced, diverse, and complex environment- Take direction and show initiative- Meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies with a strong safety mindset- Be responsible, accountable, and dependable- Possess a strong work ethic and positive team attitude.IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS- Minimum of 5,000+ hours operating experience- Experience loading trucks and working in soft ground condition- Experience with routine maintenance operations- A mechanical inclination of equipment maintenance (mechanic, welder, machinist) is an asset but not required- Have reliable transportation to and from the main shop location*IMPORTATANT NOTE*Some of our client sites require all staff on site to be fully vaccinated by a Heath Canada approved vaccine and may ask to see proof of vaccination at any given time. Even though proof of vaccination is not required for this position at this time, employees will need to complete an attestation – which will help us determine which sites you can and cannot work at.WORK CONDITIONS- Winter work is dependent on the weather forecast.- Candidate will need to be on-call, as some contracts require immediate care.- Shifts usually start between 5am and 6am and are usually 2-4 hours in length.- Multiple shifts can happen in a single day if accumulation or ice conditions persist.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: - $24-26/hr to start; but also dependent on proven experience.- Eligible for raises over time and attend training opportunities- If successful during winter season, permanent part-time or full-time employment will be considered.If you’re interested, please submit your resume application.
