More information can be found here.The Province of British Columbia is entering the eighth year of its Invasive Mussel Defence Program, with a particular focus on boater education and inspection along the Eastern and Southern entry points into the Province.These positions will form BC’s Invasive Mussel Defence Program, with the aim to intercept watercraft carrying invasive zebra and quagga mussels from entering the province. Central components of the job will be to deliver public education and outreach material at the inspection stations, conduct mandatory roadside boat inspections, and to deliver training on how to “Clean, Drain, and Dry” watercraft to other parts of government and stakeholders. These responsibilities require applicants to be comfortable dealing with various members of the public.The positions will be BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy Auxiliary positions and will have Auxiliary Conservation Officer appointments for specific regulations applying to aquatic invasive species enforcement and will work closely with regular Conservation Officers. Staff will receive several days training by the COS in relevant Compliance and enforcement (C&E) techniques and will also interact with other provincial and federal enforcement agencies in their area.All successful applicants must attend training from May 8th to 21st, 2022 in the Lower Mainland. For applicants outside the Lower Mainland, but within the province of BC, the Ministry will be providing room and board accommodations to attend the training.The positions will approximately start on either Friday, March 18, 2022, or early May 2022.
