Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITYSlegg Building Materials is currently seeking a Full-Time Cashier to work Tuesday-Saturday. The wage is $16 per hour.THE LOCATION - CumberlandCumberland is located in the Comox Valley on the east coast of Vancouver Island, approximately 2.5 hours from Victoria and 1.5 hours from Nanaimo. With many beaches, rivers, and lakes; Mt. Washington Ski and Alpine Resort; and world class golfing, the Comox Valley is known for year-round recreation and sports opportunities. The Slegg Building Materials Cumberland location boasts a 112,000 square foot warehouse where you will find a vast supply of high quality construction and building materials. We are excited to offer monthly breakfast or lunch events once again to our staff.THE RESPONSIBILITIES Including but not limited to the following:

  • Act as an ambassador of the company with all employees and customers
  • Maintain an emphasis on a safety culture, customer service, and efficiency as a top priorities
  • Greet and assist customers with purchases
  • Process all point of sale, returns and payment on account transactions at the cashier counter in an efficient, accurate and friendly manner
  • Answering phones
  • Maintain product displays on selling floor in immediate area
  • Provide suggestions and recommendations on products and materials
  • General housekeeping duties including cleaning displays and sanitizing high touch areas and carts.
  • Disinfecting and putting away returns
  • Cover reception as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by management
THE REQUIREMENTS
  • Previous cashier experience is an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a past paced environment during peak periods
  • Ability to work independently and as team
  • Available to work flexible hours including weekends
  • Physical requirements include:
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs
    • Standing for long periods of time
  • A positive can do attitude is essential!
