Job Description

Opportunity – Electronics TechnicianSeaforth Geosurveys Inc. is currently recruiting an Electronics Technician to add to our team of marine geomatics professionals on a full-time, permanent basis.Headquartered on Lake Banook in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Seaforth specializes in the development, implementation, and delivery of innovative marine geomatics ocean mapping and engineering services for clients within Canada and internationally.The Electronics Technician’s duties, responsibilities, and obligations include:

  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on field equipment.
  • Repair field equipment to a component level where possible, both on-site and in the office.
  • Prepare and test equipment prior to project mobilization; identify shortfalls in equipment readiness.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues on-location or remotely via telephone.
  • Act as a technical intermediary between project managers, field crews, clients, and other offices throughout the entire project lifecycle, spanning from mobilization to demobilization.
  • Install and interface equipment onto vessels of opportunity including hardware and software.
  • Maintain the company asset control system with specific respect to equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in the design and fabrication of various Research and Development projects.
  • Perform field duties with survey staff when required, including the operation of various survey equipment (multibeam, sidescan sonar, subbottom profiler, AHRS systems, etc.). On-the-job training will be provided.
  • Ability to meet physical demands including heavy lifting, climbing ladders, mast structures, etc.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Job Requirements
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without restrictions.
  • Possess the ability to obtain a valid passport for international travel and be available to travel as required.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Candidate should be available to work offshore for extended periods and should have or be willing to receive marine safety and survival training including, but not limited to: Offshore Fitness Certification, Basic Survival Training, Marine Emergency Duties, and WHMIS.
  • Possess an Electronics Engineering Technician/Technologist Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience repairing electronics to the PCB level, including PC diagnostics software and tools, soldering and cold molding cable splices, termination of coax cables, ethernet cables.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows, Office and comfortable learning/operating a range of specialized software.
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand tools to repair, install, and maintain equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams/schematics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Understand serial interface protocols, basic networking protocols.
  • Willingness and ability to operate various marine/oceanographic survey equipment after receiving on-the-job training.
  • At least two years of experience in electronics repair and/or technical support is considered an asset.
  • Special consideration to individuals with previous experience or training in the marine geomatics industry.
  • Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
