Job Description

LeeWay Marine is the leading marine services company in Atlantic Canada, operating fully crewed vessels to support all ocean going sectors. Our company is built on the fundamental principle that knowledge drives success.We are currently accepting resumes for experienced and qualified Deckhands, for a relief position to finish a project in the Strait of Bell Isle. Potential longer term opportunities are also available.The chosen candidate must be able to pass a client required Drug and Alcohol screening prior to joining the vessel. Responsibilities: The duties of the Deckhand/Mate shall be as follows:

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of deck crew;
  • Perform watchkeeping duties, as requested by the Master;
  • Partake in fire and lifesaving drills;
  • Perform general maintenance and hygiene duties as directed by the Master, including painting, cleaning, planned maintenance work and tank inspections;
  • Perform duties at port and offshore, including without limitation: mooring, unmooring and line handling; handling ship-assist lines; loading stores; cargo loading, discharging and back loading including cargo hose handling; cargo lashing; anchor-handling and towing operations; launching and recovering geophysical and geotechnical survey equipment;
  • Other duties as reasonably required
Reporting to the Master, this list is a summary of key responsibilities. Additional duties and responsibilities as reasonably consistent with those usually performed by a Deckhand may be required.Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid and Unlimited Transport Canada Marine Medical
  • STCW Bridge Watch Rating or AB Seafarer Certificate of Competency (Deckhand)
  • STCW Basic Safety
  • STCW Survival craft other than a fast rescue craft
  • Marine Basic First Aid
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate software applications relevant to position
  • Proven track record of relevant offshore experience in the marine sector (minimum 2 years)
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Valid Canadian Passport
