Principle Duties: To carry out the responsibilities of a women’s counsellor in a shelter serving women and their children leaving intimate partner violence.Basic duties include but not limited to: answering the 24-hr distress/crisis line; intake for women and children coming into the shelter; both crisis and supportive counselling, safety planning, advocacy and referrals, as well as household duties that support residents during their stay at the shelter.Skills & Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Community Studies, Womens Studies and/or equivalent combination of training and experience, with current First Aid, NVCI and CPR.· Experience and knowledge of working with women and children who have experienced various levels of violence and trauma as well as the basic principles of crisis intervention – de-escalation strategies.· Proven track record of dependability and reliability in an employment setting· Experience providing resources and supports for individuals who use drugs and/or are in the process of recovery from addiction.· Experience delivering services and supports to people who have experienced trauma and are living with mental illness.· Demonstrated capacity to manage conflict within the work place with professionalism.· Basic skills in the use of Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.Hours of Work: Must be available to work day time, and evening shift work, regular hours of work to be determinedPosition Type: Term Bargaining Unit Position.Wage: As per the current collective agreement.Please submit cover letter and resume to: Ada MacDonald, Manager of Client Services Bryony House no later than July 5@12 noon.Bryony House is an equal opportunity employer and a Unionized work environment: Public Service Alliance of Canada Local #80022If this position is not filled by a bargaining unit member, external candidates will be contacted.112 Tacoma Dr.; Dartmouth, NS, B2W 3E9;Job Type: Full-timeSalary: From $27.16 per hourBenefits:
