Job Description

Impactful Health Research and Development (IHRD) is an award-winning biomaterials innovation Startup developing sustainable active packaging to prolong the shelf life of fresh proteins, starting with fresh fish. IHRDs solution increases return on investment for the entire value chain while reducing food waste and reliance on traditional plastics.PositionA 1 year internship position for a lab technician (Chemist), with a possibility of renewal into a permanent full time position.Project Description:We are looking for an outstanding Chemist lab technician with diverse lab skills, preferably with experience in wet chemistry techniques to help us move forward with scale-up experiments for commercial productions of our core technology Actipack. This involves switching from a laboratory batch to a continuous in-line process, that will allow us to produce large quantities of packaging film in a rolled format. The successful candidate will work closely with our R&D team on experiments related to formulation and chemical reactions optimization, modification, and reassessment of process steps for in-line reactions, and novel coating application of our technology. The incumbent will be part of a close-knit team that is driven to disrupt the packaging industry and will report to the Director of R&D.Duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature review
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures
  • Assist our R&D team in conducting a diverse range of experiments in the field of chemistry, analytical chemistry and biochemistry
  • Analyze results and produce progress reports and presentations
  • Assist in grant applications and reporting
  • Present results to team members or others and communicate findings effectively
  • Attend project meetings
Knowledge and skills:
  • Competent researcher with a keen eye for detail and good notetaking
  • Good knowledge of standard wet chemistry and analytical chemistry and lab equipment
  • Ability to learn new processes quickly and to conduct and design experiments independently
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinker with the ability to troubleshoot effectively
  • Driven, self-motivated and willing to go the extra mile
  • Organized and capable of analyzing data effectively
Education required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or equivalent
  • Previous work experience outside of academia is not required
  • Hand-on experience in a laboratory is a plus
