The Nova Scotia Union of Public and Private Employees is looking to hire additional business agents for our team and inviting applications for the following, permanent full-time positions (2):Labour Union Business Agent/Organizer ABOUT US We are a small labour union with big ideas and plans. NSUPE has 8 locals representing an estimated 1800 members across Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, including the workers of Halifax Public Libraries, Halifax Regional Centre forEducation’s custodians and maintenance workers, the Canadian Blood Services blood collection workers in PEI, and the inside workers at Halifax RegionalMunicipality among others. NSUPE currently employs two business agents and an office administrator and is supported by the lawyers of Stockton Maxwell & Elliott.Each NSUPE Local has its own elected executive and Locals are overseen by the elected members of NSUPE’s Executive. Reporting directly to the Executive Council, business agents are responsible for providing advice and representing members on a wide variety of workplace matters, including assisting in all aspects of employee/employer relations, advancing the strategic objectives and policies of the union, and promoting unionism among non-unionized workers.THE POSITION This team-oriented position requires an individual who possesses a high degree of initiative, empathy, flexibility, organizational awareness, and respect for diversity in addition to exceptional verbal and written communication skills. The business agent must have a service-based orientation, strong planning and organizational skills, experience in resolving disputes and possess the ability to work independently and with sound judgement. The successful candidate must be able to prioritize their workload to manage multiple deadlines and concurrent priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, diplomacy, and decorum.The home location of this position is the NSUPE office located at 103 Thorne Ave.,Dartmouth NS. Please note this office is located on the 2nd floor and accessible only by stairs.
