Job Description

Why this roleWe are seeking a highly attentive professional who is detail-oriented and is a master of managing concurrent priorities to join our growing Creditor Practice team. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, and values a rewarding career contributing to the success of one the firm’s largest practice areas.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesAs a Legal Assistant, your responsibilities will include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for reviewing and prioritizing incoming mail, coordinate faxes and draft routine correspondence for lawyer review;
  • Regular contact and interaction with bailiffs, court officials, and financial institutions;
  • Producing documents, correspondence, and all follow-up work as directed;
  • Maintaining up to date client files, both paper and electronic with the use of in-house document management system;
  • Maintaining close contact with the court and supervising lawyer with respect to ongoing proceedings;
  • Processing large volumes of documents, with ability to use technology to store and organize files diligently;
  • Speaking with debtors to review various options and related processes;
  • Working on files from the Atlantic Provinces;
  • Invoicing and closing files as required;
  • Involvement in special projects as required;
  • Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of client/file information.
Qualifications and SkillsTo be successful, you possess the following qualifications and skills:
  • Graduate of a legal assistant/paralegal program or equivalent combination of training and experience considered an asset;
  • Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to check types material for grammatical, typographical, spells, word usage, and formatting errors)
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions with minimal supervision and take initiative;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service;
  • Propensity for contributing to a positive and collaborative culture;
  • Technically adept using Outlook and Microsoft Suite, and an aptitude for learning new computer programs quickly;
  • Strong ability to manage high-volume work and prioritize multiple deadlines;
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and ability to make judgment calls;
  • Proven ability to be self-motivated and accomplish work efficiently
